Respiratory health surveillance is recommended for workers exposed to inhalable substances such as dust and fumes.

Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH)

HSE has helpful information about hazardous or harmful substances. Inhalable substances such as dust and fumes can cause damage to lungs.

Respiratory health surveillance is a combination of completing surveillance questionnaires, undergoing a lung function test (spirometry) and, where relevant, physical examinations. This is done at the start of the role and afterwards at intervals for as long as one is still exposed.
